Memory in Speaking
Imagine your favourite scene in your favourite film. Listen to those words, hear them in your head and let them take over your emotions and body. Now imagine those immortal words being read by the actors off a piece of paper in front of them as they do in rehearsal. Doesn’t have quite the same effect, does it?
So the question is this. If speakers know the incredible value of memorising their speech why do so many (including a past NSA president at an NSA Convention) still read from notes?
David Thomas, the current US Memory Champion and international speaker on memory, is going to share his secrets on how you can deliver your speech EVERY TIME without notes and massively increase the impact that you have on your audiences.
You Are What You Can Remember
During David’s session, you will enjoy all of the following:
- Learn an easy yet powerful memory technique that was first recorded 2,500 years ago
- Perform an interactive exercise that will prove that the technique works – even before you have left the room
- Understand how to bridge the gap between theory and practice so you can use the technique to improve your speaking the very next time you speak
- See David give a demonstration of his own phenomenal skills
Biography
David Thomas left school with no qualifications. He joined the Fire Service at 20 and repeatedly failed his promotion exams. Ten years ago, he bought a book on how to improve his memory as he thought it might help him pass. 8 months later he went to the World Memory Championships and came 4th. He has since gone on to develop one of the most powerful memories in history, setting Guinness, World, British and US memory records. In 1998, he recited the math formula Pi (3.14159…) to 22,500 digits from memory to set a Guinness record. He is the current US Memory Champion, a World Championship medallist and an International Grandmaster of Memory. He has written two bestselling books, the second of which went into The Sunday Times bestseller list in September 2007 (the UK equivalent of the New York Times bestseller list). He has done over 350 media interviews to date, the biggest of which was appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show. He is now an international speaker who speaks 100 times a year in up to 15 countries and in front of audiences up to 2000 people.
David resides in Manhattan, New York, having recently emigrated from the UK in October 2007.
Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to hear the world’s greatest speaker in his field share unique and powerful strategies that will take your speaking to a whole new level.
